COMEDY SERIES BEGAN ON THIS DAY IN 1954

The series began on CBS, originally sponsored by Lorillard‘s Kent cigarettes in its
first season, Scott Paper Company became the primary sponsor when the series
moved to NBC in the fall of 1955, remaining as sponsor even after it moved back
to CBS in September 1958, with Lever Brothers as an alternate sponsor from 1957 through 1960. A total of 203 episodes were produced, running until September 17,
1960, and appearing on all three of the television networks of the time, including
prime-time repeats from September 1960 through April 1963.

landing her a contract with 20th Century Fox. They loaned her to a British
studio where she made One Million Years B.C. (1966). Before fame, she

got a job as a weather forecaster at KFMB, a local San Diego television
station.

  Arthur Morton Godfrey (August 31, 1903 – March 16, 1983)

Arthur Godfrey was a radio and television broadcaster and entertainer
who hosted two CBS-TV weekly series and a daily 90-minute television
mid-morning show through most of the decade, but by the early 1960s
he was only hosting an occasional TV special. Godfrey was one of the
early master commercial pitchmen, identified with many sponsors like
Lipton Tea. Before fame, he was a radio operator in the U.S. Navy for
four years.

REMEMBERING DENNIS JAMES

James is best known for hosting the first network game show
Cash and Carry on the DuMont Network in 1946, the first to
