Voice actor Dick Beals with a statue of “Speedy”

Dr. Medicine Company, makers of Aka-Seltzer, introduced the
"Speedy" character in 1951. He was originally conceived by
Creative Director George Pal of the Wade Ad Agency and
designed by illustrator Wally Wood. Originally named Sparky,
the name was changed to Speedy to align with that year’s
promotional theme, "Speedy Relief." He appeared in over
200 TV commercials between 1954 and 1964, voiced by
Dick Beals (shown above).

Buffalo Bob Smith with Howdy

Howdy Doody is an children’s television program, created and
produced by E. Roger Muir and telecast on NBC from 1947 until
1960. It was one of the first television series produced at NBC in
Rockefeller Center, in Studio 3A, it was also a pioneer in early
color production as NBC (at the time owned by TV maker RCA)
used the show in part to sell color television sets in the 1950s.

The character Howdy Doody first came to life from the creative
mind of Bob Smith during his days as a radio announcer on
WNBC (AM).

Geritol was introduced as an alcohol-based, iron and B vitamin tonic by
Pharmaceuticals, Inc. in August 1950 and primarily marketed as such into
the 1970s. Since 1982, the Geritol product name has been owned by the
multinational pharmaceutical firm GlaxoSmithKline and is still around today .
