AM America was a morning news program produced by ABC in an attempt
to compete with Today on NBC. The show never found an audience after its
premiere. Lasting just under ten months, its final installment aired on October
31, 1975.

NUMBER-ONE ON THIS DAY IN 1958
Danny And The Juniors‘ Rock ‘n’ Roll classic "At The Hop" was originally written
as "Do the Bop", American Bandstand host Dick Clark suggested the group re-
write the lyrics because the dance known as The Bop was on its way out. Clark
was right and the quartet’s record stayed in the top spot for a month.
SITCOM DEBUTED ON THIS DAY IN 1961
Mister Ed the talking horse and co-star Alan Young as Wilbur Post
“Mr. Ed” first aired in syndication from January 5 to July 2, 1961, and then
on CBS from October 1, 1961, to February 6, 1966. It is one of the few
series to debut in syndication and be picked up by a major network for
prime time.
VETERAN ACTOR IS 84 YEARS OLD TODAY
Robert Duvall’s screen debut as Boo Radley in To Kill a Mockingbird (1962)
Duvall has been nominated for six Academy Awards (winning for his performance
in Tender Mercies, 1983), six Golden Globes (winning four), and also has multiple nominations and one win each of the BAFTA, Screen Actors Guild Award, and
Emmy Award.
