Dick Clark took over as the host of Philadelphia’s TV dance show on WFIL, then
called simply Bandstand, after former host Bob Horn was arrested for DUI. The
show, which would go national on ABC the following year, changed its name to
American Bandstand and ran for 37 years.

Popular singer and actor Ed Ames is best known for his pop and adult
contemporary hits of the 1960s. He was part of a popular 1950s singing
group called the Ames Brothers.

Steve Lawrence (Born Sidney Liebowitz in Brooklyn, New York)
Steve Lawrence is known for his longtime singing partnership with wife
Eydie Gormé.The two appeared together regularly on Tonight Starring
Steve Allen in the mid-1950s until Gormé’s retirement.
Steve and Eydie were both honored with a lifetime achievement award
from the Songwriters Hall of Fame. Eydie died on August 10, 2013, six
days before her 85th birthday, at Sunrise Hospital & Medical Center in
Las Vegas following a brief, undisclosed illness.

BURT WARD IS 69 TODAY
Burt Ward (born Bert John Gervis, Jr., in Los Angeles, California)
Ward is best known for his role as Robin in the ABC television version of
Batman (1966-1968). He wound up acting in more than 30 TV movies
after the series. Before fame Burt Ward worked part-time at his father’s
real estate company after graduating college. He was also listed as the
world’s youngest professional ice skater when he was two-years-old.

Ken Curtis (Curtis Wain Gates) (July 2, 1916 – April 28, 1991)
Curtis was an singer and actor best known as the iconic character
Festus Haggen on the long-running CBS television western series
Gunsmoke (1955-1975). He first appeared on the show in 1962
and was featured full-time from 1964 until 1975.
Curtis was born in Lamar, Prowers County Colorado and was a
singer before moving into acting and combined both careers once
he entered films, performing with the popular Sons of the Pioneers
from 1949 to 1953 as well as singing with the Tommy Dorsey band
replacing Frank Sinatra as vocalist.
