Lindsay Wagner, best known for her portrayal of Jaime Sommers in the
television series The Bionic Woman (1976-1978 on ABC/NBC), was born
in Los Angeles and later moved with her mother and stepfather to Portland,
Oregon, where she attended David Douglas High School. Wagner furthered
her education at the University of Oregon. Before fame, she modeled prior
to starting her acting career.

SERIES PREMIER ON THIS DAY IN 1948

In 1948, the CBS television network was planning a weekly variety series
and Newspaper columnist Ed Sullivan was chosen as host. The series
premiered on June 20, 1948 as the Toast of the Town. The show featured
Dean Martin and Jerry Lewis performing along with singer Monica Lewis
and Broadway composers Richard Rodgers and Oscar Hammerstein II. On
September 18, 1955, the series was given its new title The Ed Sullivan Show.
GAME SHOW DEBUT ON THIS DAY IN 1952
I’ve Got a Secret is a panel game show produced by Mark Goodson and
Bill Todman for CBS television. Created by comedy writers Allan Sherman
and Howard Merrill, it was a derivative of Goodson-Todman’s own panel
show What’s My Line?.
The original version of I’ve Got a Secret, hosted by radio and television
personality Garry Moore, premiered on June 19, 1952 and ran until April
3, 1967.
TALENTED SINGER IS 71 TODAY
Barry Manilo (Barry Alan Pincus)
Singer-songwriter and producer Manilo recorded "I Write the Songs" and
"Mandy" and is also known for his charity shows.
Before fame, Barry Manilo went to the Julliard School and worked at CBS
simultaneously. During this time, he began to work as a commercial jingle
writer producing jingles like that of the State Farm Insurance company…
"Like a good neighbor, State Farm is there…", and Band-Aid …”I am
stuck on Band-Aid, ’cause Band-Aid’s stuck on me!", for which he
adopted a childlike voice. His singing-only credits include Kentucky
Fried Chicken, Pepsi, Dr Pepper and the famed McDonald’s…”You
Deserve a Break Today" campaign.
TV SITCOM DEBUTED ON THIS DAY IN 1952
Gale Storm and co-star Charles Farrell
My Little Margie is sitcom starring Gale Storm and Charles Farrell that
alternated between CBS and NBC from 1952 to 1955. The series was
created by Frank Fox and produced in Los Angeles, California at Hal
Roach Studios by Hal Roach, Jr. and Roland D. Reed.
My Little Margie premiered on CBS as the summer replacement for I
Love Lucy on June 16, 1952, under the sponsorship of Philip Morris
cigarettes.When the series moved to NBC for its third season in the
fall of 1953, Scott Paper Company became the sponsor.
