SINGER/ACTOR BORN ON THIS DAY IN 1909



Burl Icle Ivanhoe Ives (June 14, 1909 – April 14, 1995)

Folk singer Burl Ives recorded "A Little Bitty Tear" (1961) and 
was responsible for Christmas standards like "Holly Jolly
Christmas” (1965). On a local note, Ives was the Grand
Marshal of the 1975 Portland Rose Festival Parade.

SINGER JIM ED BROWN HAS DIED AT 81

James Edward "Jim Ed" Brown
(April 1, 1934 – June 11, 2015
)

FRANKLIN, Tenn. (AP) – Jim Ed Brown, a longtime Grand Ole Opry member
who had solo and group hits and was a prominent figure on country music
television shows, died Thursday.

Brown died of cancer at Williamson Medical Center in Franklin, Tennessee,
according to a news release from Webster Public Relations. He is to be
inducted into the Country Music Hall of Fame this year.

In the mid-1950s, Brown and his two sisters, Bonnie and Maxie, formed the
trio known as The Browns, and had the No. 1 hit "The Three Bells" on both
the pop and country charts in 1959.

Dean Martin (born Dino Paul Crocetti in Steubenville, Ohio

(June 7, 1917 – December 25, 1995)

Martin was one of the most popular and enduring entertainers of the
mid-20th century. He was nicknamed the "King of Cool" for his effortless 
charisma and self-assuredness. He and Jerry Lewis were partners in the
hugely popular comedy team "Martin and Lewis".
