NEWLYWEDS ON THIS DAY IN 1952

Ronald Reagan and Nancy Davis were married at a nearly secret wedding
ceremony near Los Angeles in the Little Brown Church in the Valley. Nancy
was 30 years old, and Ronald was 41 years old at the time.

The only guests at their late-afternoon wedding were William and Ardis
Holden. William was their best man and Ardis was matron of honor. 
 
After the wedding, Ronald and Nancy spent the first night of their 
honeymoon at the historic Mission Inn in Riverside, California.

JACK GOT MARRIED ON THIS DAY IN 1927

Jack Benny married Sadie Marks (above) on January 25, 1927. The couple met
while she was said to be working as a lingerie salesgirl at a May Department Store
in Los Angeles. Sadie changed her name to Mary Livingstone, a scripted character 
in one of Jack’s vaudeville shows.

MARILYN AND JOE WERE WED ON THIS DAY IN 1954

Marilyn Monroe Joe DiMaggio were marred at San Francisco City Hall on
Thursday, January 14, 1954. Monroe filed for divorce on grounds of
mental cruelty nine months after the wedding. After Monroe’s death in
1962, DiMaggio had red roses delivered to her crypt two to three times
a week for some twenty years.

COMEDY DUO MARRIED ON THIS DAY IN 1926

The comedy team of Burns and Allen consisting of George Burns and his wife,
Gracie Allen, worked together in vaudeville, films, and radio and television with
great success over four decades. The couple met in 1922 while performing at
the Hill Street Theater in Newark, New Jersey and were later married January 7,
1926 in Cleveland.

THE KING MARRIED THE QUEEN ON THIS DAY IN 1947

Roy Rogers met Dale Evans in 1944 when she was cast in a movie along with
Roy. Following the death of his second wife ,Grace Arline, Rogers and Evans
soon fell in love, and Rogers proposed to her during a rodeo at Chicago
Stadium. They married on New Year’s Eve in 1947 at the Flying L Ranch in
Davis, Oklahoma, where a few months earlier they had filmed Home in
Oklahoma
. Rogers and Evans remained married until Rogers’s death
in 1998.
