SOME EXPENSIVE MUSIC MEMORABILIA

Pink Floyd Ilustrado: David Gilmour · Prog Magazine 2019-03
David Jon Gilmour (78)

Music memorabilia has always been popular with collectors,
and there have been several items with truly extraordinary
price tags.

According to Guitar World, a 1954 Fender Stratocaster owned
by David Gilmour of Pink Floyd sold for $1.8 million at a 2019
Christie’s auction, while one owned by Jerry Garcia of the
Grateful Dead sold for $1.9 million in 2017.

Famous guitars associated with a single iconic musical
performance have fetched huge prices at auction houses.

The biggest by far is the Martin D-18E acoustic played by
Nirvana’s Kurt Cobain at the band’s “MTV Unplugged”
performance, which sold in 2020 for more than $6 million,
making it the most expensive guitar ever sold.

According to military officials this week, the remains of a World
War II airman were identified 80 years after his plane was shot
down during a bombing mission in Germany.

In the spring of 1944, U.S. Army Air Force Tech. Sgt. Sanford G.
Roy, of Chattanooga, Tennessee, was assigned to the 732nd Bombardment Squadron in the European Theater.

A news release from the Defense POW/MIA Accounting Agency
said Roy and several other airmen were aboard the B-24H
Liberator "Little Joe" on a bombing mission to Brunswick,
Germany on April 8.

The plane was shot down by German forces and other airmen
flying near the aircraft did not report seeing any crew members
exiting "Little Joe" before it crashed. His name was engraved
on the Walls of the Missing at the Netherlands American
Cemetery.

collection of fake Gibson guitars

U.S. Customs and Border Protection officials in
Los Angeles
seized more than $18 million in fake Gibson guitars in the
largest counterfeit musical instrument seizure in history.

Working with local and federal agencies at the LA/Long
Beach Seaport, agents intercepted the suspected cargo
arriving in ocean containers
from Asia.

In total, agents seized more than 3,000 counterfeit guitars
and had they been genuine, the value would have been
more than $18.74 million.
