American Hot Wax is a 1978 biopic film telling the story of Cleveland, Ohio DJ
Alan Freed (shown below), who was instrumental in introducing and popularizing 
rock ‘n’ roll in the 1950s. Freed is credited with coining the term “rock ‘n’ roll”.The  
film starred Tim McIntire (above) as Freed, with Laraine Newman, Fran Drescher,  
and Jay Leno in supporting roles.The movie also featured performances by Chuck
Berry, Jerry Lee Lewis, and Frankie Ford. The film was never officially released on 
VHS or DVD.

PRODUCTION OF THE FORD MUSTANG BEGAN ON THIS DATE IN 1964

Production of the 1965 Mustang (VIN coded by Ford and titled as 1965 models)
began in Dearborn, Michigan on March 9, 1964. Pictured above and below is  
the first model off the assembly line. It was introduced to the public on April
17, 1964 at the New York World’s Fair.The 1965 Mustang was Ford’s most
successful launch since the Model A.

DIRECTOR PETER YATES ~ DEAD AT 81

British filmmaker Peter Yates, who sent Steve McQueen screeching through
the streets of San Francisco in a Ford Mustang in "Bullitt," has died at the age of 81.

Yates was nominated for four Academy Awards – two as director and two as producer
for the cycling tale "Breaking Away" and the backstage drama "The Dresser." (AP)
