THE CIVIL WAR BEGAN ON THIS DAY IN 1861

THIS DAY IN HISTORY – Civil War begins as Confederate forces fire on Fort Sumter – 1861 – The ...

Four of the bloodiest years in American history began when
Confederate shore batteries under Gen.
Pierre G.T. Beauregard
opened fire on Union-held Fort Sumter in South Carolina’s
Charleston Harbor on April 12, 1861.

During the next 34 hours, 50 Confederate guns and mortars
launched more than 4,000 rounds at the poorly supplied fort.

On April 13, U.S. Major Robert Anderson surrendered the fort and
two days later, President
Abraham Lincoln issued a proclamation
calling for 75,000 volunteer soldiers to quell the Southern
“insurrection.”

Four years after the Confederate attack on Fort Sumter, the
Confederacy was defeated at the total cost of 620,000 Union
and Confederate soldiers dead.

MUSIC HISTORY RECORDED ON THIS DAY

1955 HITS ARCHIVE: Rock Around The Clock - Bill Haley & His Comets (a #1 record)
"Rock Around the Clock" was a Last-Minute Addition to
the recording session.

On April 12, 1954, Bill Haley and His Comets recorded
“(We’re Gonna) Rock Around The Clock” at a Decca
recording session in New York City.

If rock and roll was a social and cultural revolution,
then “(We’re Gonna) Rock Around The Clock” was
its Declaration of Independence. And if Bill Haley
was not exactly the revolution’s
Thomas Jefferson,
it may be fair to call him its
John Hancock.

The song was chosen to play over the opening
credits of the film Blackboard Jungle, which is
how it became a pop sensation, selling a million
copies in a single month in the spring of 1955.

AN AI MAKEOVER OF A CLASSIC FILM?

The Wizard of Oz (1939) — The Movie Database (TMDB)
A new version of the 1939 film ‘The Wizard of Oz’ is set to premiere at Las Vegas Sphere in August.

(FOX NEW S) – The use of artificial intelligence to reimagine
the classic film
"The Wizard of Oz" will likely see mixed
reactions from fans, experts told Fox News Digital.

While "film purists" may resist the idea of using generative
AI to give classic films an entire makeover, the technology
could "breathe new life" into hit movies — including "The
Wizard of Oz."

Warner Bros. Discovery, Google Cloud and Magnopus have
set out to do just that by creating an immersive experience
for fans of the 1939 classic.

The new "Wizard of Oz" experience is set to premiere at the
Las Vegas Sphere on Aug. 28.
