The first national broadcast of Misterogers’ Neighborhood was on most National Education Television stations. When NET ceased broadcasting in 1970, PBS
assumed the network and its programming. It was also around this time that the
show had a title change, to the more-familiar Mister Rogers’ Neighborhood. The
series was in production till February 20, 1976, and again from August 27, 1979
to August 31, 2001. The show was hosted by Fred Rogers.

THE BATTLE OF IWO JIMA BEGAN ON THIS DATE IN 1945
The invasion of Iwo Jima continued to March 26, 1945. The battle was a major initiative
of the Pacific Campaign of World War II. The Marine invasion, known as Operation Detachment, was charged with the mission of capturing the airfields on the island
which up until that time had interfered with U.S. bombing missions to Tokyo. Once
the bases were secured, they could then be of use in the impending invasion of
the Japanese mainland.
