While on a tour of London on Saturday, April 16, 1960, the taxi 21 year-old Eddie
Cochran was riding in lost control and crashed into a lamp post at about 11.50 pm. Cochran, who received head injuries when he was thrown from the vehicle, died in
the hospital at 4:10pm the following day. Songwriter Sharon Sheeley and singer
Gene Vincent, who were in the taxi with Cochran survived the crash, although
Vincent sustained lasting leg injuries that affected him for the rest of his life.
