FUNNY GIRL CAROL BURNETT IS 78 TODAY
Carol Burnett, actress, comedienne, singer, dancer and writer, started her career
in New York. After becoming a hit on Broadway, she made her television debut on
The Garry Moore Show on CBS (1950s – 1960s). Carol then moved to Los Angeles
and began The Carol Burnett Show which was aired on CBS-TV from 1967 to 1978.
THE GUITAR MAN IS 73 YEARS OLD TODAY
Duane Eddy is a Grammy Award-winning guitarist who had a string of hit records
in the late 1950s and early 1960s, produced by Lee Hazelwood. His recordings are
noted for their characteristically “twangy” sound, such as “Rebel Rouser”, Peter
Gunn”, and “Because They’re Young”. He was inducted into the Rock and Roll
Hall of Fame in 1994.
COMEDY SHOW DEBUTED ON THIS DATE IN 1931
Lum and Abner was a radio comedy show which aired on the NBC network from
1931 to 1954. The show was created by it’s stars, Chester Lauck and Norris Goff
(shown above). It was modeled on life in the small town of Waters, Arkansas
near where the pair grew up. In 1936 the town of Waters changed its
name to Pine Ridge, after the fictional town in the radio show.
