RUSSELL CROW IS 47 TODAY

Russell Crowe  is a New Zealand-born Australian actor and musician. His acting
career began in the late 1980s with roles in Australian television. In the late
1990s, Crowe transferred his acting ambitions to the United States with his
breakout role in L.A. Confidential (1997). Crowe won the Academy Award for
Best Actor for Gladiator in 2001 and has received three Academy Award
nominations for Best Actor in a Leading Role:The Insider (1999) Gladiator
(2000), and Beautiful Mind (2001).

RADIO DRAMA DEBUTED ON THIS DATE IN 1945

This Is Your FBI was a radio crime drama which aired on ABC from April 
6, 1945 to January 30, 1953 for a total of 409 shows. FBI chief J. Edgar
Hoover gave it his endorsement, calling it "the finest dramatic program
on the air". Stacy Harris (shown below) played the lead role of fictional
Special Agent Jim Taylor. Others in the cast included William Conrad.

RADIO CLIFFHANGER DEBUTED ON THIS DATE IN 1931

Little orphan Annie debuted on WGN radio in Chicago and eventually aired
coast to coast on NBC’s Blue Network until 1942. For most of the shows run, 
Chicago actress Shirley Bell (below) played Annie. The initial sponsor of  
the show was chocolate flavored Ovaltine. Little Orphan Annie was one 
of the first comic strips adapted to radio. It was inducted into the Radio
Hall of Fame in 1990.

HIT RECORD CUT ON THIS DATE IN 1965

Shortly after is release as a single, “California Girls” reached #3 on
the Billboard Hot 100. It is one of The Beach Boys’ most famous songs
and the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame included it in its list of the “500
Songs that Shaped Rock and Roll”. In 2004, Rolling Stone magazine
ranked it 71st on their list of the 500 Greatest Songs of All Time.
