Ding Dong School was a half-hour children’s TV show which began on Wednesday, November 24, 1952 on WNBQ-TV (now WMAQ-TV) in Chicago, Illinois. It was the first educational children’s program and was hosted by Dr. Frances R. Horwich (aka “Miss Frances”) who was the head of the Department of Education at Chicago’s Roosevelt College. The last show aired on Friday, December 28, 1956.

Watching Miss Frances inspired me. I had always dreamed of becoming a teacher. I did so i 1960 and taught for 41 years and then subbed for another 10. It’s a wonderful profession. I miss it so.
