Country music song writer, singer/musician Merle Haggard helped
to create the popular Bakersfield Sound along with Buck Owens. He
was inducted into the Oklahoma Music Hall of Fame for the hit song
“Okie from Muskogee.
CIVIL WAR BATTLE BEGAN ON THIS DAY IN 1862
The Battle of Shiloh, also known as the Battle of Pittsburg Landing, was a major
battle in the Western Theater of the Civil War and was one of the bloodiest battles
in U.S. history up to that time. It was fought from April 6 to the 7th in southwestern
Tennessee.
The Confederates, under General Albert S. Johnston, were forced to retreat from
the battle, ending hopes of blocking the Union army and Major General Ulysses S.
Grant, from advancing into northern Mississippi. Casualties included 2,400 killed
and over 3,000 wounded.
ACTOR ROY THINNES IS 74 TODAY
Roy Thinnes is a television and film actor best known for his role of
David Vincent in the ABC series The Invaders (1967-1968). He also
portrayed the character Alfred Wentworth in the pilot episode of Law
& Order on NBC in 1990.
