Jeannie C. Riley (Jeanne Carolyn Stephenson) is a country
music and gospel singer known best for her 1968 pop and
country hit “Harper Valley PTA”. The song, written by Tom
T. Hall, missed becoming both the Billboard Country
and Pop number-one at the same time by one week.

In 1948 the Ford Motor Co. presented baseball great Babe Ruth with a new Lincoln Continental two-door hardtop coupe to show their appreciation for his tireless devotion
to Little Leaguers and the sport of baseball. It is believed to be the last car Ruth ever
drove before he died of cancer in August of that year.
Lonnie Shelton, a big Ruth and baseball fan from Pampa, Texas, recently acquired
the car for an undisclosed amount. The “Yankee” blue colored car had been parked
the past 35 years in a couple of museums in Minnesota and Texas. The new owner
said it has 81,000 original miles on it.

Rare copy of the first issue of News-week magazine
Newsweek, the second-largest news weekly magazine behind Time, has
announced it will cease print publication with the December 31, 2012 issue
and transition to an all-digital format that will be called Newsweek Global. The
announcement was made today by Newsweek editor Tina Brown who also
edits the magazine’s sister online site, The Daily Beast. The two merged
in 2010. Newsweek was to have celebrated its 80th anniversary this
coming February.
