William Alan Shatner gained worldwide fame and became a cultural icon for
his portrayal of James T. Kirk, captain of the USS Enterprise, in the science
fiction television series Star Trek on NBC from 1966 to 1969.

The Voice of Firestone, originally titled The Firestone Hour, is a long-running
radio and television program of classical music that first aired December 3,
1928 on the NBC Radio network. On Monday, March 22, 1948 it became
the first commercial radio program to be carried simultaneously on both
AM and FM stations.

Over two million copies of the 78rpm single were sold, quickly
making Johnnie Ray a teen idol.

John Alvin Ray was born in Hopewell, Oregon, ten miles south of Dayton
and later moved with his parents to Portland, Oregon where he attended
High School. Ray died of liver failure in Los Angeles at the age of 63. He
was buried at Hopewell Cemetery in Oregon.
