The station began telecasting on Thursday, March 15, 1962

KATU in Portland, Oregon is one of the few television stations in the country
(not counting owned-and-operated stations) that has had the same call letters,
the same owner, and the same channel number throughout its history.

The John F. Kennedy Eternal Flame is a presidential memorial at the gravesite of President John F. Kennedy located in Arlington National Cemetery. It replaced the temporary gave and eternal flame used during Kennedy’s funeral on November 25,
1963. The Consecration ceremony, which took only 20 minutes, was attended by
President Lyndon B. Johnson, Mrs. Kennedy, and other members of the family. .

MIKE LOVE OF THE BEACH BOYS IS 71 TODAY

Singer/songwriter Michael Edward "Mike" Love is a founding member of The
Beach Boys and continues to perform with the band to the present day. Love
and the other members of the group were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall
of Fame in 1988.
