LAST MERCURY FLIGHT ON THIS DAY IN 1963
NASA Astronaut Gordon Cooper
Cooper enters Faith 7 for his flight
Leroy Gordon "Gordo" Cooper, Jr., USAF piloted the longest and last
Mercury spaceflight in Faith 7 for 34 hours, 19 minutes and 49 seconds
for a total of 22 orbits to evaluate the effects of one day in space. The
Mercury project officially ended on June 12, 1963.
Cooper after the flight, becoming the last U.S. astronaut
to orbit the Earth alone.

TRINI LOPEZ TURNED 76 TODAY
Trini Lopez (Trinidad López III) was born in Dallas, Texas where he
began is career in the Vegas Club, a nightclub owned by Jack
Ruby. His first big hit was “If I Had a Hammer”.
