RAMSEY LEWIS HAS TURNED 78
Ramsey Emmanuel Lewis, Jr. is a jazz composer, pianist and radio
personality. He has recorded over 80 albums and has received
to date, seven gold records and three Grammy Awards in his
career.
IT’S PEGGY LEE’S BIRTHDAY
Peggy Lee (May 26, 1920 – January 21, 2002)
Lee was a jazz and popular music singer, songwriter, composer and
actress with a career spanning six decades. She began as a singer
on local radio to performing with the big band of Benny Goodman.
Peggy wrote music for films, and acted as well, receiving three Grammy
Awards including the Lifetime Achievement Award, an Academy Award
nomination and a ASCAP Award. Lee was inducted into the Songwriters
Hall of Fame in 1999.
SINGLE RELEASED ON THIS DAY IN 1973
"Smoke on the Water" by the British rock band Deep Purple was ranked
number 434 on Rolling Stone magazine’s list of the 500 greatest songs of
all time in 2004, ranked number 4 in Total Guitar magazine’s Greatest Guitar
Riffs Ever, and in March 2005, Q magazine placed "Smoke on the Water" at
number 12 in its list of the 100 greatest guitar tracks.
