COMIC STRIP CELEBRATES 35 YEARS TODAY

First Garfield strip


Garfield
is a comic strip created by Jim Davis. Published since June 19, 1978. It
chronicles the life of the title character, the cat Garfield who named after Davis’s 
grandfather, his owner, Jon Arbuckle; and Jon’s dog, Odie. As of 2013, it was 
syndicated in roughly 2,580 newspapers and journals, and held the Guinness
World Record for being the world’s most widely syndicated comic strip.

  Richard Allen Boone
(June 18, 1917 – January 10, 1981)

Actor Richard Boone starred in over 50 films and was notable for his
roles in Westerns and for starring in the CBS television series Have
Gun Will Travel
(1957-1963). Boone was in the U.S. Navy during
World War II. He used the G.I. Bill to study acting after the war.
