MEMORABILIA RECEIVED THE HIGHEST BID
The 1919 promissory note (above) from the New York Yankees to the Boston Red
Sox in payment for the sale of Babe Ruth, sold for $1.02 million, the highest price
paid for a sports contract, at an auction Saturday, July 12. The sports memorabilia
auction was held in Baltimore and marked the 100th anniversary of Babe Ruth’s
major league debut.

Harrison Ford is 72 years old today. Ford was active in the Boy
Scouts of America, and achieved its second-highest rank, Life
Scout. He worked at Napowan Adventure Base Scout camp as
a counselor for the Reptile Study merit badge. Because of this,
he and Eagle Scout director Steven Spielberg later decided to
depict the young Indiana Jones as a Life Scout in the 1989 film
Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade.
FAMOUS DOUGHNUT HAS A BIRTHDAY
Krispy Kreme Doughnuts, Inc.was founded July 13, 1937 by
Vernon Rudolph who bought a secret yeast-raised recipe
from a New Orleans chef, rented a building in what is now
historic Old Salem in Winston-Salem, NC, and began selling
to local grocery stores.
