DAVID SOUL IS 71 TODAY
David Soul (born David Richard Solberg, Jr. in Chicago, Illinois)
Soul teamed up with Paul Michael Glaser in the role of Hutch as part of
the famed ABC duo Starsky and Hutch (1975-1979). He studied political
science when he was 19 years old and later went into music. David Soul
was offered a pro baseball contract in 1962 to play for the Chicago White
Sox, but he turned it down. He became a British citizen in 2004.
POP SINGER TOMMY SANDS IS 77 TODAY
Former teen idol Thomas Adrian "Tommy" Sands was born in
Chicago, Illinois. His song "Teen Age Crush" reached No. 2 on
Billboard’s Hot 100 and No. 1 on Cashbox.

PROBE LAUNCHED ON THIS DAY IN 1962
An Atlas rocket leaves the launch pad at Cape Canaveral with Mariner
2 on board
Mariner 2 was the first robotic space probe to conduct a successful planetary
encounter when it passed within 22,000 miles of Venus on December 14, 1962.
Dr. William H. Pickering, (center) Jet Propulsion Laboratory Director, is
presenting a Mariner 2 spacecraft model to President John F. Kennedy
in 1963.
