ALBUM RELEASED ON THIS DAY IN 1966

Pet Sounds is the eleventh studio album by the Beach Boys.it initially met a
lukewarm critical and commercial reception, but In later years, garnered
enormous worldwide acclaim by critics and musicians alike, and is regarded
as one of the most influential pieces in the history of popular music.

The album was produced by Brian Wilson, who also wrote and composed
almost all of its music. Sessions were conducted several months after he
had quit touring with the Beach Boys in order to focus his attention on
writing and recording.

FIRST STEWARDESS ON THIS DAY IN 1930


Ellen Church (September 22, 1904 – August 22, 1965)

Church, a registered nurse and aspiring pilot, became the world’s first
stewardess to fly when she embarked on a Boeing 80A for a 20-hour
flight from Oakland/San Francisco to Chicago with 13 stops and 14 
passengers. According to one source, the pilot was another aviation
pioneer, Elrey Borge Jeppesen (below).

SINGER TRINI LOPEZ IS 78 TODAY


Trinidad "Trini" López III was born in Dallas, Texas.

Lopez formed his first band in Wichita Falls, Texas, at the age
of 15. In 1958, at the recommendation of Buddy Holly, Trini
and his group "The Big Beats" went to producer Norman Petty
in Clovis, New Mexico. Petty secured them to a contract with
Columbia Records, which released the single "Clark’s Expedition"
/"Big Boy", both instrumental. Lopez left the group and made his
first solo recording, his own composition "The Right To Rock",
for the Dallas-based Volk Records.

"If I Had a Hammer (The Hammer Song)" is a song written by Pete Seeger and Lee Hays. It was written in 1949 in support of the progressive movement.

BLUES MUSICIAN B.B. KING IS DEAD AT 89


B.B. King (born Riley B. King; September 16, 1925 – May 14, 2015)

On May 1, 2015, after two hospitalizations caused by complications from high
blood pressure and diabetes. King announced on his website that he was in
hospice care at his home in Las Vegas, Nevada.
