‘STAR TREK’ ACTRESS HAS DIED AT 85

(born Mary Ann Chase(April 1, 1930 – May 1, 2015)

 

LOS ANGELES (AP) –  Grace Lee Whitney, who played Captain Kirk’s assistant
on the original "Star Trek" series, has died.

Whitney died of natural causes Friday in her home in the Central California town
of Coarsegold, about 50 miles north of Fresno, according to her son Jonathan
Dweck. 

Whitney played Yeoman Janice Rand in the first eight episodes before being
written out of the series. In her 1998 autobiography "The Longest Trek: My
Tour of the Galaxy," she wrote that her acting career largely came to an end
and she became an alcoholic.

Hepburn was active during Hollywood’s Golden Age. She starred in
“Breakfast at Tiffany’s” (1961) and received a Golden Globe Award for
her performance in “Roman
Holiday” (1953). She was ranked by the
American Film Institute as the third greatest female screen legend in the
history of
American cinema and has been placed in the national Best
Dressed List
Hall of Fame. In 1993, she received a Screen Actors Guild
Life Achievement Award.
