William James "Count" Basie  (August 21, 1904 – April 26, 1984)

Count Basie was a swing-era bandleader noted for his theme songs One
O’Clock Jump
from 1937 and April in Paris in 1932. He introduced several
generations of listeners to the Big Band sound and left an influential catalog.

Kenneth Ray "Kenny" Rogers is celebrating birthday 77 today.

Rogers joined his first band, The Scholars, in the mid-1950s, but the band
dissolved after their front man left to go solo. He is a 2013 inductee into the
Country Music Hall of Fame.
