AN AWARD – WINNING MAGAZINE FOR KIDS

Jack and Jill is a bimonthly magazine for children 7 to 12 years old that takes
its title from the nursery rhyme of the same name. It features stories and
educational activities, games and more.

Having been continuously produced for nearly 75 years, it is one of the oldest
American magazines for kids.

The publication was launched by Curtis Publishing Company in 1938 and was
the first addition to the Curtis line of magazines.

HUGE MINIMUM WAGE INCREASE IN 1949


President Truman signs the Fair Labor Standards Act.

U.S. President Harry Truman, declaring the federal minimum wage ought to be
nearly double, raised the minimum wage from 40 to 75 cents an hour. The
increase is roughly the equivalent of a wage today jumping to $10.70 from
$5.70 an hour.

JACLYN SMITH IS 70 TODAY


Jacquelyn Ellen "Jaclyn" Smith

Smith played Kelly Garrett on ABC-TV’s Charlie’s Angels and was 
the only original female lead to remain with the series for its entire 
run (1976–81). She also worked as a K-Mart fashion icon. Jaclyn
initially intended on becoming a ballet dancer after moving to New
York, but soon became interested in modeling and acting.
