THE DEATH OF A ROCK STAR ON THIS DAY
Nelson boarded a chartered DC-3 in Guntersville, Alabama,
bound for a New Year’s Eve appearance in Dallas. Shortly
before reaching Dallas the cabin of Nelson’s plane filled
with smoke due to a fire of undetermined origin.
While the two pilots of the plane would survive their
attempted emergency landing in a field outside De Kalb,
Texas, all seven passengers on board were killed, including
the first pop star to cross over from the Nielsen charts to
the Billboard charts, Rick Nelson.
In 1987, Rick Nelson was posthumously inducted into the
Rock and Roll Hall of Fame—an honor no other former
child actor has yet achieved.

MOST FAMOUS STUNT ON THIS DAY IN 1967

In one of the most iconic motorcycle stunts ever, Evel Knievel
attempted his longest jump—141 feet—over the Caesars
Palace fountain in Las Vegas. He missed the landing at
90 mph, sustaining serious injuries. But his global fame
soared.

Robert Craig Knievel (October 17, 1938 – November 30, 2007)
Knievel died on the way to a hospital in Clearwater, Florida. He had
been suffering from diabetes and idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis for
many years. He was 69.
Knievel was inducted into the Motorcycle Hall of Fame in 1999.
