ROBERT CONRAD ~ 76 TODAY

Actor Robert Conrad is best known for his role in the CBS-TV series The
Wild Wild West
(1965 – 1969) , in which he played the sophisticated Secret
Service agent James T. West, and his portrayal of World War II flying ace Pappy Boyington in the NBC-TV series Baa Baa Black Sheep (1976 – 1978). He was
a recording artist of pop/rock songs in the early 1960s as Bob Conrad before
he started acting. He currently hosts a weekly 2 hour national radio show
called “The PM Show with Robert Conrad” heard on CRN Digital Talk Radio.

George Kennedy has appeared in over 200 film and television productions. He is best known as the convict Dragline in Cool Hand Luke (1967),for which he won an Academy Award, airline troubleshooter Joe Patroni in the Airport series of disaster movies from the 1970s and as Captain Ed Hocken in the Naked Gun series of comedy films with the late Leslie Nielsen (1988,1991, and 1994).

TEST PILOT CHUCK YEAGER IS 88 TODAY

Charles Elwood "Chuck" Yeager is a retired major general in the
United States Air Force and noted test pilot. He was the first man to
break the sound barrier on October 14, 1947, flying the experimental
Bell X-1 (shown below) at Mach 1 at an altitude of 45,000 feet.

‘’LUCKY LINDY’’ WAS BORN ON THIS DATE IN 1902

Charles Augustus Lindbergh was an aviator, author, inventor, explorer,and 
social activist. Lindbergh, then a 25-year old U.S. Air Mail pilot, emerged to
almost instantaneous world fame as the result of his  solo non-stop flight on
May 20-21, 1927, from Roosevelt Field on New York’s Long island to Paris,
France, a distance of nearly 3,600 miles in the Spirit of St. Louis, a single-
seat, single-engine monoplane (shown below). Lindberg, who was an
officer in the U.S. Army reserve, was awarded the nations highest
military decoration, the Medal of Honor. He died in 1974 at age 72.

Investigators came to the conclusion that the crash was due to a combination
of poor weather conditions and pilot error.
