(FOXNEWS) – A rare drawing by Leonardo da Vinci, valued at almost $16
million, has been discovered by a French auction house.

Paris-based auction house Tajan announced the discovery of “The Martyred
Saint Sebastian” drawing Monday. This is the first work by da Vinci to be
discovered in over 15 years, according to Tajan, which has valued the
drawing at $15.8 million.

The New York Times reports the sketch is one of 14 unframed drawings
brought into the auction house in March by a retired doctor. The drawings
had been collected by the man’s father.

DALLAS (AP) –  Keys to the New Jersey lab where Thomas Edison invented
the phonograph and some of the light bulbs that he perfected sold for more
than $60,000 at auction on Saturday.

The keys sold for $10,625 at an auction run by Heritage Auctions in Dallas. A 
set of five Edison bulbs used in a court case sold for $30,000.

The items were acquired by Charlie Knudsen, 69, of Pittsburgh, and had
belonged to his great-aunt. She was married to one of the attorneys whose
law firm represented Edison in patent lawsuits.

(FOXNEWS) – The Netherlands’ Bubb Kuyper auction house expected the eight-
line poem on a piece of old paper to sell for thousands. They just didn’t expect
to go for $148,000.

For that price, an anonymous bidder has become the owner of a poem signed
by Anne Frank on March 28, 1942. According to reports, her family was forced
into hiding in Amsterdam on July 6 of that year.

The poem was initially sent to the older sister of one of Anne’s friends, Jacqueline
van Maarsen. However, van Maarsen says her sister, who died in 2006, gave it
to her around 1970. According to the auction website, van Maarsen decided to
sell the poem.

The opening lines of the poem, written in a “poezie album,” or friendship book, 
are traditional lines of encouragement that might have come from a 1930s
Dutch periodical.

The closing verses — which may be Anne’s own — say:

If others have reproached you

For what you have done wrong

Then be sure to amend your mistake

That is the best answer one can make.

BOSTON (AP) — An angry letter from John Lennon to Paul and Linda
McCartney written shortly after the Beatles’ breakup has been sold at
auction for nearly $30,000.

The two-page typed draft , with handwritten annotations by Lennon,
was sold Thursday by Boston-based RR Auction.

RR says the letter is believed to have been written in 1971 in response
to criticism Lennon received from Linda McCartney about his decision
to not publicly announce his departure from the band.

The profanity-filled and sometimes rambling letter reads: “Do you really
think most of today’s art came about because of the Beatles? I don’t
believe you’re that insane — Paul — do you believe that? When you
stop believing it you might wake up!”

The letter was sold to a collector in Dallas who requested anonymity.

NEW YORK (AP) –  A 1891 painting from Claude Monet’s acclaimed "Grainstack"
series fetched $81.4 million at Christie’s New York auction of impressionist and
modern art.

Wednesday evening’s sale set a new auction record for the artist. The previous 
auction record for a Monet was $80.4 million set in 2008.
