ROCK STARS ACCIDENT ON THIS DAY IN 1966
The remains of Jan’s Corvette after crashing into a parked truck.
Jan Berry of the early rock duo Jan & Dan received severe head injuries in
an automobile accident just a short distance from Dead Man’s Curve in Los
Angeles, California. It was two years after the song had become a hit. He had
a long and difficult road to recovery from brain damage and partial paralysis
and minimal use of his right arm. His doctors told him he would never walk
again, but he ultimately proved them wrong.
The Jan and Dean act ended with Jan Berry’s death on March 26, 2004, after
suffering a seizure at the age of 62. Dean Torrence now tours occasionally
with The Surf City All-stars.
