On July 6, 1957, Althea Gibson claimed the women’s singles tennis
title at Wimbledon and becomes the first African American to win a championship at London’s All England Lawn Tennis and Croquet
Club.

Gibson was born on August 25, 1927, in Silver, South Carolina,
and raised in the Harlem section of
New York City. She began
playing tennis as a teenager and went on to win the national
Black women’s championship twice.

Alan Wolf Arkin (March 26, 1934 – June 29, 2023)


Oscar winner Alan Arkin, whose background in improvisation 
with characters from the 1960s comedy “The Russians Are
Coming, the Russians Are Coming”, “Glengarry Glen Ross”
to “Little Miss Sunshine”, and “Argo,” died at his home in
Carlsbad, California Thursday at age 89. He had a history
of  heart problems.

On June 12, 2023, Williams was hit by a car
while riding his motorcycle on
Vermont Route

, near Dorset. He was airlifted to a hospital
in
New York, where he died at the age of 71.

Treat Williams was an actor, writer and aviator
who has appeared on film, stage and television
in over 120 credits. He first became well known
for his starring role in the 1979 musical film Hair,
and later also starred in the films
The Eagle Has
Landed
, Prince of the City, Once Upon a Time in
America
, and The Late Shift.  
         
Williams was nominated for two Screen Actors
Guild
Awards
and nominated for three Golden
Globe Awards
, two Satellite Awards and an
