Kirk Douglas became an unlikely spokesman for stroke awareness
Kirk Douglas (born Issur Danielovitch)
(December 9, 1916 – February 5, 2020)



As an actor and philanthropist, Kirk Douglas received
an
Academy Honorary Award for Lifetime Achievement
and the
Presidential Medal of Freedom.

As an author, he wrote ten novels and memoirs. After
barely surviving a helicopter crash in 1991 and then
suffering a stroke in 1996, he focused on renewing
his spiritual and religious life.

He lived with his second wife, producer Anne Buydens,
until his death in 2020. A
centenarian, Douglas was one
of the last surviving stars of the film industry’s Golden
Age.

Dave Brubeck – Dave Brubeck's Greatest Hits (1966, Vinyl) - Discogs

Dave Brubeck was a jazz pianist and composer. Often regarded
as a foremost exponent of
cool jazz.

Born in Concord, California, Brubeck was drafted into the US
Army, but was spared from combat service when a
Red Cross
show he had played at became a hit. Within the US Army,
Brubeck formed one of the first
racially diverse bands.

Brubeck died of heart failure on December 5, 2012, in
Norwalk, Connecticut, one day before his 92nd birthday.

Samuel Langhorne Clemens, later known as Mark Twain,
was born
in Florida, Missouri, on November 30, 1835.

Clemens was apprenticed to a printer at age 13 and later
worked for his older brother, who established the Hannibal
Journal. In 1857, the Keokuk Daily Post commissioned him
to write a series of comic travel letters, but after writing five
he decided to become a steamboat captain instead.

He signed on as a pilot’s apprentice in 1857 and received
his pilot’s license in 1859, when he was 23.
