HE STUNG LIKE A BEE ON THIS DAY IN 1964

On February 25, 1964, 22-year-old Cassius Clay shocked the odds-makers by dethroning world heavyweight boxing champ Sonny
Liston in a seventh-round technical knockout. The dreaded Liston,
who had twice demolished former champ Floyd Patterson in one
round, was an 8-to-1 favorite. However, Clay predicted victory,
boasting that he would “float like a butterfly, sting like a bee” and
knock out Liston in the eighth round.

THE GERBER BABY TODAY ~

gbn

Ann Turner Cook (above) may well be one of the most recognizable
persons as a child of all time.

Turner, now 88, was just a four months old in 1928 when a sketch of
her was selected in a contest to represent Gerber baby food.

For nearly 50 years, Cook’s identity as the Gerber baby was kept top
secret
because the baby food company wanted everyone to be able
to identify with the baby as their child. After retiring from teaching,
Cook became a mystery novelist.

ONE OF THE LAST OF ITS KIND IN OREGON

99w-40
The 99W Drive-In outside Portland, Oregon in Newberg has been a family run business for three generations.

The 99W Drive-In Theatre opened originally in 1953.  It is one of only four drive-ins
left in operation in Oregon and the last one in the Portland area. The state once had
a total of 73.

By December 31, the majority of American drive-in theaters must upgrade to digital
projectors or face closure. The switch to the new system costs roughly $80,000.
