Harriet Elisabeth Beecher Stowe was born in Litchfield, CT.
(June 14, 1811 – July 1, 1896)


Abolitionist author Harriet Beecher Stowe’s literary classic, Uncle
Tom’s Cabin
, encouraged anti-slavery efforts in the Northern
states. Her other numerous literary works include novels, letters,
articles, and travel memoirs. She received a first-class education
at a school run by her sister and later supported the Underground
Railroad and housed several fugitive slaves.

PORTRAIT CHANGE ANNOUNCED TODAY


Harriet Tubman (born Araminta Ross)  (1822 – March 10, 1913)

Treasury Secretary Jack Lew (below) announced plans today for Harriet Tubman
to replace U.S. President Andrew Jackson as the portrait on the front side of the
twenty-dollar bill. The exact design will be announced in 2020.


Tubman, was a Christian African-American, born into slavery who became a humanitarian, abolitionist and one of the leaders’ of the Underground Railroad
during the American Civil War as a Union spy. she became an icon of American 
courage and freedom.


Jacob Joseph "Jack" Lew.


A current $20 bill with the seventh U.S. President (1829–37), Andrew
Jackson
who has been featured on the bill since 1928.
