Based on the popular characters created by Sir Arthur Conan Doyle,
The Adventures of Sherlock Holmes began on coast-to-coast radio
from Monday October 20, 1930 until June 5, 1955. There were 574
broadcasts over the NBC, Mutual and ABC networks. The original
cast featured William Gillette as Holmes and Leigh Lovell as Dr.
Watson. The first sponsor was George Washington Coffee. The
announcer was Joseph Bell.

SUSAN ANTON ~ BIRTHDAY 61 TODAY
Susan Anton – Miss California 1969
Susan Ellen Anton is a actress and singer who first experienced fame by
winning the Miss Redlands and Miss California contests in 1969 and tied
as second runner-up in the 1970 Miss America Scholarship Pageant held
in September of that year. In the mid-1970’s, Anton became known for her
Muriel Cigar commercials. In 1978 she joined country singer Mel Tillis on
a summertime TV variety series, Mel and Susan Together on ABC. Anton
appeared approximately 30 times on The Merv Griffin Show on NBC. She
was also in such films as Goldengirl (1979) and Cannonball Run ll (1984).
