ACTRESS BORN ON THIS DAY IN 1844
Sarah Rosine Barnhardt (October 22, 1844 – March 26, 1923)
Bernhardt was a French stage and early film actress, and was referred
to as "the most famous actress the world has ever known." She made
her fame on the stages of France in the 1870s and was soon in demand
in Europe and the United States. Sarah Barnhardt developed a reputation
as a serious dramatic actress, earning the nickname "The Divine Sarah."
LIFE SAVERS FOR HALLOWEEN IN 1957
Candy manufacturer Clarence Crane of Garrettsville, Ohio invented the brand in
1912 as a "summer candy" that could withstand heat better than chocolate. The
candy’s name is derived from its similarity to the shape of life preservers used
on boats. Life Savers is currently a property of Mars, Incorporated.
