JUST FOR LAUGHS WITH ANDY GRIFFITH


The monologue "What it Was, Was Football" was recorded in 
Raleigh, NC for the Colonial label in 1953. Soon, Colonial had 
sold nearly 50,000 copies of the record and then sold the 
masters to
Capitol Records. Capitol released the record in 
the same year, and soon had sold nearly 800,000 copies
and was instrumental in launching Griffith’s career in TV,
stage, and film. The record is still one of the biggest
selling comedy records of all time. On the original single,
(below) the monologue is credited to "Deacon Andy Griffith."

ACTRESS DORIS SINGLETON IS DEAD AT 92

    Doris Singleton (September 28, 1919 – June 26, 2012)

(AP) – Actress Doris Singleton, who played Lucy and Ricky Ricardo’s neighbor,
Carolyn Appleby, on "I Love Lucy," has died. She was 92.

Lucie Arnaz, daughter of Lucille Ball and Desi Arnaz, confirmed the death in a
post on her Facebook page. Singleton died Tuesday, the same day as writer-
director Nora Ephron, and Arnaz acknowledged them both in her post, writing,
"They were loved and appreciated and will be missed."

Singleton appeared on dozens of TV shows in the 1950s, 60s and 70s, including
"Perry Mason," "My Three Sons," "All in the Family" and "Hogan’s Heroes."

LEGENDARY SCREENWRITER IS DEAD AT 71

              Nora Ephron (May 19, 1941 – June 26, 2012)

(Fox News)-Author, director and screenwriter Nora Ephron died today
in a New York hospital from complications from the blood disorder
myelodysplasia, with which she was diagnosed six years ago.

Nora Ephron is best remembered for her romantic comedies and was
a triple nominee for the Academy Award for Writing Original Screenplay
for three films: Slikwood (1983), When Harry Met Sally (1989), and
Sleepless in Seattle (1993). Her most recent film was Julie & Julia in
2009.
