PLAY OPENED ON THIS DAY IN 1946
The Iceman Cometh was written by playwright Eugene O’Neil in 1939. The play
premiered on Broadway at the Martin Beck Theatre in New York on October 9,
1946. It was directed by Eddie Dowling and ran for 136 performances closing
on March 15, 1947.

DEBATES BEGAN ON THIS DAY IN 1960
On Monday September 26, 1960, 70 million viewers tuned in to watch Senator
John Kennedy of Massachusetts and Vice President Richard Nixon in the first-
ever televised presidential debate. It was the first of four televised "Great
Debates" between Kennedy and Nixon.
