BATTLE TOOK PLACE ON THIS DAY IN 1876

On June 25, 1876, Native American forces led by Crazy Horse and
Sitting Bull defeated the U.S. Army troops of Lt. Col. George
Armstrong Custer
in the Battle of the Little Bighorn near
southern Montana’s Little Bighorn River.

POPULAR D.J. BORN ON THIS DAY IN 1924

Dick Novak (1924 – 2002)

Dick Novak was a popular radio personality for over 29
years working at KXL, KGON and KGW. 

On April 11, 1955 Dick moved to KPOJ AM/FM in Portland,
Oregon where he began "Dick Novak’s Rhythm Room”- 9:30
to 2:00am, Monday through Friday from KPOJ’s transmitter
studio located on Mount Scott at S.E. Eastview Drive
(pictured below).

During World War II, the U.S. 10th Army overcomes the last
major pockets of Japanese resistance on Okinawa Island,
ending one of the bloodiest battles of World War II.

The same day, Japanese Lieutenant General Mitsuru Ushijima,
the commander of Okinawa’s defense, committed suicide with
a number of Japanese officers and troops rather than surrender.
