SERIES DEBUTED ON THIS DAY IN 1942

Mr. and Mrs. North was a radio mystery series that aired on NBC and
CBS from 1942 to 1954. Alice Frost and Joseph Curtin had the original 
title roles. The program received the first Best Radio Drama Edgar Award
from the Mystery Writers of America. In 1953 Barbara Britton and Richard
Denning took over the roles of Mr. and Mrs. North.

Mary Tyler Moore was born in the Brooklyn Heights section of 
Brooklyn, New York.

Moore is best known for The Mary Tyler Moore Show on CBS from 
1970 to 1977, and The Dick Van Dyke Show also CBS from 1961 to
1966. She also appeared in a number of films, most notably 1967’s
Thoroughly Modern Millie and 1980’s Ordinary People. 

Moore was diagnosed with Type I diabetes when she was 33. In 2011,
she had surgery to remove a meningioma, a benign brain tumor. Since
2012, she has reportedly suffered heart and kidney problems and has
become nearly blind.

Gertrude Berg (born Tillie Edelstein) played Molly 
Goldberg

The Goldbergs is a domestic comedy-drama featuring
the home life of a Jewish family living in the Bronx. The
program was devised by writer-actress Gertrude Berg
who also starred as the lovingly meddlesome matriarch
Molly Goldberg. The 15-minute program was broadcast
from 1929 to 1946, first on NBC, later moving to CBS in 
1936.

The radio series of Gunsmoke first aired on CBS on April 26, 1952 with the
episode "Billy the Kid", written by Walter Newman. The show ended on June
18, 1961. It starred William Conrad as Marshal Matt Dillon, Howard McNear
as Doc Charles Adams, Georgia Ellis as Kitty Russell, and Parley Baer as
Dillon’s assistant Chester Wesley Proudfoot.
