found to be uplifting to women on the home front during WWII. The NBC
radio series aired until June 2, 1950. It was sponsored by General Mills.

Mr. Smith Goes to Washington was nominated for 11 Academy Awards, winning
for Best Original Story. In 1989, the Library of Congress added the movie to the
United States National Film Registry.

DEAN STOCKWELL TURNED 77 TODAY
Dean Stockwell (Robert Dean Stockwell) of film and television,
with a career spanning over 65 years, began as a child actor
under contract to Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer. He first came to the
public’s attention in films such as Anchors Aweigh (1945) and
The Green Years (1946).
Stockwell is currently known for television roles, in the 1989–
1993 NBC television series Quantum Leap, and the Sci Fi
Channel 21st century revival of Battlestar Galactica.

Jackie (John Herbert) Gleason (February 26, 1916 – June 24, 1987)
The comedian, actor and musician is best remembered for his character Ralph
Kramden in The Honeymooners. The sitcom was based on a recurring 1951-
1955 sketch on the DuMont network’s Cavalcade of Stars and later on The
Jackie Gleason Show on CBS from 1955 – 1956.
Gleason’s film roles include Minnesota Fats in the 1961 drama The Hustler
starring Paul Newman and Buford T. Justice in the Smokey and the Bandit
series with Burt Reynolds.
ABE VIGODA TURNED 91 TODAY
Abraham Charles "Abe" Vigoda appeared in dramas, including
The Godfather, (1972) and in the ABC-TV comedy Barney Miller
(1975-1982) and the 1990 film Joe Versus The Volcano.
