NORTHWEST LANDMARK IS 50 TODAY

The Space Needle is an observation tower in Seattle, Washington and is a major landmark of the Pacific Northwest and a symbol of Seattle. Located at the Seattle
Center
, it was built as the centerpiece of the 1962 space-themed World’s Fair. It is 
s 605 feet high at its highest point and 138 feet wide at its widest point and weighs
9,550. When it was completed on December 8, 1961 it was the tallest structure
west of the Mississippi River. The Space Needle was designated a historic
landmark on April 19, 1999 by the City’s Landmarks Preservation Board.

The “hovering disk” of the Space Needle has been the home of two restaurants
for decades, but were they were closed in 2000 and replaced with  a larger one
called SkyCity.

restaurants in the world, dates its founding to the opening of a
franchised
restaurant by
Ray Kroc, in Des Plaines, Illinois, on April 15, 1955. It is the
ninth McDonald’s restaurant overall.

oldest mcdonalds 
The oldest operating McDonald’s restaurant in Downey, California opened
in 1953. It was the third one built.
