Boeing was founded by William Boeing in Seattle, Washington,
on July 15, 1916.The present corporation is the result of the
merger of Boeing with McDonnell Douglas on August 1, 1997.

Then–chairman and CEO of Boeing, Philip M. Condit, assumed
those roles in the combined company, while Harry Stonecipher,
former CEO of McDonnell Douglas, became president and COO.

William Edward Boeing
(October 1, 1881 – September 28, 1956)

After successfully building a float plane together
with Commander George Conrad Westerveldt,
William Boeing founded a new aircraft company
bearing his name. It was his intention for Boeing
Aircraft to fulfill a US Navy contract for seaplanes.

Krispy Kreme founder Vernon Rudolph "bought a secret yeast-
raised doughnut recipe from a New Orleans French chef."

According to Krispy Kreme’s website, Rudolph set up a doughnut
factory in present-day Old Salem in Winston-Salem, North Carolina,
and began to sell doughnuts to area grocery stores on this day in
1937.

"The delicious scents of cooking doughnuts drifted into the
and passersby stopped to ask if they could buy hot doughnuts."

Rudolph created the first Krispy Kreme storefront by cutting a
hole in the wall of his building, allowing people to buy a glazed
doughnut right on the sidewalk.

James Cash Penney Jr.
(September 16, 1875 – February 12, 1971)

James Penny Jr. was a businessman and
entrepreneur who founded the JCPenney
stores in 1902.

In the East End of London, revivalist preacher William Booth and
his wife Catherine (below) establish the Christian Mission, later
known as the Salvation Army. Determined to wage war against
the evils of poverty and religious indifference with military
efficiency, Booth modeled his Methodist sect after the British
army, labeling uniformed ministers as “officers” and new
members as “recruits.”

In 1878, the organization was renamed the Salvation Army, and
two years later the first U.S. branch opened in Pennsylvania.

McKee Foods Corporation is a privately held and family-owned
American snack food and granola manufacturer headquartered
in Collegedale, Tennessee.The corporation is the maker of
Drake’s Cakes, Fieldstone Bakery snacks and cereal, Little
Debbie snacks, and Sunbelt Bakery granola and cereal.The
company also formerly operated Heartland Brands.

The company was founded during the Great Depression in
the 1930’s by Oather "O.D." McKee and Ruth McKee (below).

Oather started out selling 5¢ snack cakes from the back of
his 1928 Whippet in the Chattanooga area.
