HALLOWEEN IN THE 1940s
IT’S A HOLIDAY !
Columbus Day celebrates the first landing of explorer Christopher
Columbus on the shores of the New World which occurred on the
12th of October in 1492. President Franklin D. Roosevelt proclaimed
It a federal holiday in the United States in 1937. President Richard M.
Nixon later declared the day a national holiday to be observed on the
second Monday of each October.
ONE OF MY FAVORITE NATIONAL HOLIDAYS!
Adding cheese to a burger became quite popular during the late 1920s.The culinary creation has been accredited to Lionel Sternberger, who claims he came up with the
invention when he was a 16-year-old fry cook at his father’s “The Rite Spot” sandwich shop in Pasadena, California. Sternberger said he “experimentally dropped a slab of American cheese on a sizzling hamburger.”
