WHO IS BURIED IN GRANT’S TOMB?

Grant’s Tomb is located in Riverside Park in the Morningside Heights neighborhood of Upper Manhattan in New York City.

Grant’s Tomb, now formally known as General Grant National Memorial, is the
final resting place of Ulysses S. Grant (1822–1885), the 18th President of the
United States, and his wife, Julia Dent Grant (1826–1902).

The monument was dedicated (below) on April 27, 1897, the 75th-anniversary
ceremony of Grant’s birth on April 27, 1822.

IT OFFICIALLY ENDED ON THIS DAY IN 1945

The Battle of Iwo Jima began on February 19, 1945 and was officially declared
ended with the securing of the island on March 26. The five week battle to
capture the island from the Japanese Imperial Army comprised some of the
fiercest and bloodiest fighting of the War in the Pacific during World War II.

Terence Steven “Steve” McQueen
(March 24, 1930 – November 7, 1980)

McQueen received an Academy Award nomination for his role
in The Sand Pebbles (1966). His other popular films include
Bullitt (1968), and The Great Escape (1963). In 1974, he
became the highest-paid movie star in the world. Steve
McQueen competed in weekend motorcycle races to help
support himself while studying for his acting career.
