Mehran Karimi Nasseri  (1945 – 12 November 2022)

(USA TODAY) – The Iranian man who inspired the Steven Spielberg
film
"The Terminal” died in Paris’ Charles-de-Gaulle airport after
living there for almost two decades, French officials said today.

Mehran Karimi Nasseri, a political refugee, died after a heart attack
in the airport’s Terminal 2F, Paris airport authority officials reported.

Police and a medical team treated Nasseri but were not able to
save him, an airport spokesperson
told Agence France-Presse
news agency.

Nasseri, who the Guardian reported called himself "Sir Alfred,"
got caught in an immigration trap in the late 80s – unable to
enter France. Born in 1945, Nasseri, lived in the airport’s
Terminal 1 from 1988 until 2006, first in legal limbo because he
lacked residency papers then later by choice, USA TODAY
archives show.

FIRST BLOCKBUSTER VIDEO-RENTAL STORE

See the source image

On October 19, 1985, the first Blockbuster video-rental store
opened in Dallas,
Texas. At a time when most video stores
were small-scale operations featuring a limited selection of
titles, Blockbuster opened with some 8,000 tapes displayed
on shelves around the store and a computerized check-out
process.

The first store was a success and Blockbuster expanded
rapidly, eventually becoming one of the world’s largest
providers of in-home movies and game entertainment,
before eventually filing for bankruptcy in 2010.

Blockbuster was founded by David Cook (below), who had
previously owned a business that provided computer
software services to the oil and gas industry in Texas.

HAN SOLO IS A HUNK! … A HUNK OF BREAD

See the source image

(AP) – “Pan Solo”,that’s what a bakery in the San Francisco Bay
Area has dubbed its 6-foot (1.8 meter) bread sculpture of the “Star
Wars" character as he appeared after being frozen in carbonite in
“The Empire Strikes Back."

Hanalee Pervan and her mother, Catherine Pervan, co-owners of
One House Bakery in Benicia, California, spent weeks molding,
baking and assembling the life-sized sculpture using wood and
two types
of dough, including a type of yeast less dough with a
higher sugar
content that will last longer.

The two worked at night, after the day’s business was done. The sculpture is now on display outside of the bakery, located about
a half-hour’s drive north of San Francisco.

Unfortunately, Pan Solo won’t last forever. The dough eventually
will be composted, not eaten.

So, as a wise Jedi might warn: Don’t use the forks, Luke.
