Boris Karloff hosted a weekly children’s radio program over New York’s
WNEW during the early 1950s. He played children’s music and read stories
and riddles. The program,“Karloff’s Treasure Chest”, also became popular
with adults.

RECORD RELEASED ON THIS DAY IN 1967
The song "Green Tambourine" was the primary hit by the 1960s Ohio–based
rock group The Lemon Pipers. It has been credited as being one of the first
bubblegum pop chart-toppers. Released towards the end of 1967, it peaked
at number one on the Billboard Hot 100 for one week at the beginning of
February, 1968 and earned the group a gold record for over a million
copies sold. The record remained on the chart for three months, the first
U.S. number-one hit for the Buddah label.

The Everly Brothers recorded "Let It Be Me" in New York City. It
was the first time they recorded outside of Nashville and it was
the first time they recorded with strings. The record reached
number seven on the Billboard Hot 100.
