Stephen Glenn
"Steve" Martin is 71 today.

While attending UCLA, Steve Martin appeared on an episode
of The Dating Game on ABC-TV and worked at night clubs. He
dropped out of the university at age 21.

Playing the banjo from an early age, he released his debut music
album The Crow: New Songs for the 5-String Banjo in 2009 and
it went on to win the Grammy Award for Best Bluegrass Album.

FAMOUS CLARINETIST HAS DIED AT 86


Pete Fountain (Pierre Dewey LaFontaine, Jr.)
(July 3, 1930 – August 6, 2016)

(FOXNEWS) – Clarinetist Pete Fountain, whose Dixieland jazz virtuosity and
irrepressible wit endeared him to his native New Orleans and earned him
decades of national television fame, died Saturday of heart failure.

Benny Harrell, Fountain’s son-in-law and manager, said Fountain was in
hospice care in New Orleans when he died early Saturday.

RECORD RECORDED ON THIS DAY IN 1938

After signing a new recording contract with RCA Victor  Artie Shaw chose
"Begin the Beguine" to be the first of six tunes he would record with his new
14 piece band at this, his first recording session with RCA. The session was
held at RCA’s "Studio 2" on East 24th Street in New York.

(May 23, 1910 – December 30, 2004)

Shaw was also an actor and a author who wrote both fiction and non-
fiction. He remained a force in popular music and jazz before retiring
from music completely in 1954.

CUSTOM GUITAR TO GO UP FOR AUCTION


Prince Rogers Nelson (June 7, 1958 – April 21, 2016)

LOS ANGELES (AP) A bright yellow, uniquely shaped guitar used by Prince
to perform such tunes as "Cream" and "Gett Off" is going up for auction.

Heritage Auctions is selling one of the late artist’s "yellow cloud" electric
guitars beginning June 24 with an opening bid of $30,000. The guitar was
one of several custom guitars Prince used in the 1980s and 1990s.

Leonardo di ser Piero da Vinci, (more commonly Leonardo da Vinci)
(April 15, 1452 – May 2, 1519)   

Leonardo da Vinci was a renaissance artist, inventor, polymath, musician, and
architect who painted the Mona Lisa and The Last Supper and drew the iconic
Vitruvian Man. He is widely considered one of the greatest painters of all time. He
also devised such futuristic technology as tanks, concentrated solar power, and
adding machines, and spearheaded some vital breakthroughs in anatomy, civil engineering, optics, and hydrodynamics.
